Plant:
bare-root perennials, drought-tolerant shrubs--ceanothus, cotoneaster, Fremontodendron, manzanita and rosemary. Time to plant
Heirloom tomatoes (remember to plant them deep) and other seedlings like peas and beans.
Maintenance:
Weed, weed, and weed--get them before they go to seed.
Lay down compost and more mulch, if you haven't done so this winter. Also, fertilize your plants with a natural, gentle fertilizer--sprinkle
around the plant base and let the rain to the rest.
Tend to flowering shrubs. Remove spent blooms on azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons, give them a feed.
If rain has stopped or is infrequent, turn on irrigation and check the duration and frequency.
Control mosquitoes by eliminating breeding sites--draining water from pipes, gutters, buckets, plant containers, etc. Stock
ponds with mosquitofish--contact your county for the mosquito abatement division.
